MORE EU COUNTRIES WITH REQUIREMENTS REG. DRIVERS' WEEKLY REST
A number of EU countries such as France and Belgium and most recently Germany have prohibited drivers from keeping the regular weekly rest of 45 hours in the cab or nearby
The German ban entered into force on 25 May 2017.
The ban involves significant costs for the majority of all international carriers in Europe, as a result of which there will be significant reductions in both flexibility and mobility. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that there are not enough accommodation for the drivers, or even secure rest areas with sufficient capacity.
As a consequence, transport companies are imposed costs and administrative burdens to an unprecedented extent, as accommodation must be provided at hotel, motel or the like, and it must be expected that the insurance companies will, to some extent, require the truck and the goods to be placed safely resting places and the like.
